December 15th, 2013- the day I purchased the book The Power of Now by Eckhart Tolle. It took me nearly 3 months to finish reading the book for the simple reasoning of me applying the concept of living in the now at every waking moment. During my reading sessions, whether that was in the back of class or standing at work behind the host stand during my lunch shifts, I would gain an extremely liberating, euphoric, blissful feeling throughout all of my being.
The further I read and the more I applied living in the now, I began to realize how powerful that moment of being truly is. The best part of it all, is it is always available to you and everyone in abundance at any moment of every second, minute, and hour of every day. I truly believe this book was the catalyst of my spiritual awakening process. It’s not surprising however considering the subtitle of the book is “a guide to spiritual enlightenment.” I highly recommend this book to everyone. It has changed the way I live my life and I’ve never been happier.
It hurts my soul to see everyone around me so extremely caught up in their minds, creating a false sense of self by defining their being based on their past experiences. The only time there is, is NOW. Stop continuously searching for gratification elsewhere when everything you want is YOU. Our true essence of being is unconditional love. When one is fully present and being is felt, an aura of energy encompasses you and great sense of relief is released. If you are still confused, let me share with you an excerpt from the book:
“Use your senses fully. Be where you are. Look around. Just look, don’t interpret. See the light, shapes, colors, textures. Be aware of the silent presence of each thing. Be aware of the space that allows everything to be. Listen to the sounds; don’t judge them. Listen to the silence underneath the sounds. Touch something-anything-and feel and acknowledge its Being. Observe the rhythm of your breathing; feel the air flowing in and out, feel the life energy inside your body. Allow everything to be, within and without. Allow the ‘isness’ of all things. Move deeply into the Now. You are leaving behind the deadening world of mental abstraction, of time. You are getting out of the insane mind that is draining you of life energy, just as it is slowly poisoning and destroying the earth. You are awakening out of the dream of time into the present.”
What did you feel? Did any thoughts come to mind? Was there a sense of stillness?
Your body, mind, and spirit will reward you with so much joy and sincere happiness when you remove your mind from constantly thinking about the past or future experiences. I could best describe the feeling I receive much like a free spirited child again. Who doesn’t want to be a kid again, let’s be serious now 😉
Some of my favorite quotes from Eckhart Tolle:
I dare you to be here now
